Important Elements of Quality
Landscape Lighting
1. The Design
The most important element of any landscape lighting project. Because each individual home and landscape is different, each landscape lighting design will be uniquely different. Each design takes into consideration the vegetation, the topography, and most important the individual tastes and need of the homeowner. The main ingredient in the design phase of each project is the ability of the designer to listen to the homeowner's desires and needs.
2. The Fixtures
The fixtures need to be of the highest quality and specifically chosen to meet the rigors of the environment in which they are placed. The unique need of the lighting design and not the profit level of the project should be the criteria for electing to use one fixture over another. Fixtures should always be shielded to avoid any 'light pollution' that can detract from the nighttime enjoyment of the environment.
3. The Installation
For the fixtures, according to the lighting design and according to proper safety procedures is another critical phase of the landscape lighting process. Highly trained and experienced technicians, tree climbers, and certified electricians with the latest and best equipment possible should perform the installation. The installation process should also address the safety of the trees in which the fixtures are being placed. In addition, care should be taken not to damage or introduce diseases to the trees or damage the existing landscape. When the design calls for both aesthetic and security lighting, much care should be taken when interfacing with the in-house security system.
